Dr. Nicolas Gillaizeau-Simonian

Post-doctoral fellow

Nicolas G.-Simonian’s research centres on developing innovative synthetic methods to explore the chemical space, focusing on the generation of biologically relevant molecules. During his PhD thesis with Prof. Janine Cossy and Dr Amandine Guérinot at ESPCI Paris, he studied a cobalt-promoted rearrangement enabling access to important pharmacophores, α-arylated amides. In 2022, he travelled to Austria for a post-doctoral position with Univ.-Prof. Nuno Maulide at the university of Vienna. There, he has been involved in exploring various facets sulfonium rearrangements and carbocation chemistry. He then came back to France and worked with Dr Guillaume Lefèvre, at Chimie ParisTech, on the catalytic applications of low-valent iron complexes bearing non-innocent ligands.

Nicolas joined the team in November 2024 as a post-doctoral researcher to investigate novel aspects of photocatalysis and radical rearrangements.

When he is not at the bench, he enjoys photography, music and playing badminton.
